JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Position Title:Specialist - Network & Security
Reports to:Associate Manager - Network & Security
Business Unit/ Department:Information Technology

 

JOB PURPOSE: 

Specialist - Network & Security is responsible for designing, implementing, monitoring and managing the local and wide area networks of the organisation to ensure maximum uptime for users. The role can include designing system configurations, documenting and managing the installation of a new network, and maintaining and upgrading existing systems as necessary. 

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES  
  • Maintaining network security by monitoring security threats and vulnerabilities, and recommending solutions to mitigate risk
  • Installing, configuring, and testing new network hardware and software
  • Coordinating with IT staff to plan new network installations or upgrades of existing networks
  • Troubleshooting network problems by testing network components (Wired and Wireless) for malfunctions or defects
  • Planning, designing and implementing new networking solutions for the organization.
  • Analyzing network performance to identify areas of improvement
  • Oversee security infrastructure sustainment, maintenance, and advanced configuration. (firewalls, web gateways, mail gateways, IDS, intrusion detection systems, and management tools)
  • Support and ensure optimal operation of all network security hardware and equipment
  • Work with end users to resolve and troubleshoot routing and Wired and Wireless connectivity issues

 

 
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATION  
  • Minimum Qualification: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Information Security  
  • Minimum Experience:
  • 3+ years’ experience in IT Network and Security field
  • Experience of working on networking security technologies such as; Firewalls, IPS, IDS, VPN’s, NAC, Wireless standards and protocols, network routing and switching technologies in a global infrastructure
  • CCNP certification preferred.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES 

Job Specific

  • Ability to recognize security incidents and take remedial action
  • Understanding of enterprise security architecture and design, network design concepts and fundamentals
  • Entry level skills with administering enterprise firewalls, email gateways, and web proxies
  • Mid level knowledge and troubleshooting routers and switches, preferably Cisco
  • Working knowledge in Wireless, load balancing, Firewall policies, IP addressing, SNMP, Syslog, DNS, DHCP, IEEE network communications standards, and Industry cabling standards for data and telecommunications
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills
  • Dynamic and clear thinker 
  • Technical aptitude, written and oral communications skills, project management and the ability to deal effectively with people at all levels (technical and business audiences) and in different situations. This includes the ability to develop clear, concise documentation
